Joining Process

New volunteers are recruited and trained in cohort fashion. Applications for our 2024 cohort are now CLOSED. Applications for our next cohort will open in August 2025.

1. Submit an application.

The application is designed to help us learn about you as well as provide an opportunity for you to reflect on your reasons for wanting to volunteer and capacity to invest in RWC.

2. Complete your training.

Accepted applicants will have approximately three weeks to work through the training materials, which are completely digital and allow you to work at your own pace from any device. Most trainees spend about 4 hours on this part.

At the end of the training period, trainees will come together for a face-to-face event to meet, discuss, and reflect on the training experience.

3. Access our Volunteer Circle.

Once trained, you’ll be added to our Volunteer Circle, an exclusive group reserved for trained volunteers. Here you’ll be kept abreast of organizational news and developments, invited to share your ideas and expertise, and offered opportunities to work on upcoming projects. Engage as much or as little as you have time and energy to commit.

4. Take it a step further.

Looking for somewhere to invest your passion, or a more substantial role with Rooted Willow Community? As an actively growing organization, we are continually seeking dedicated volunteers who want to take on staff and/or leadership responsibilities. Members of our Volunteer Circle are eligible for advancement within our organization and will be notified when such opportunities arise. Additional training and mentorship will be provided based on the specific activity or position selected.

 FAQs

  • Nope! It’s completely free to apply, complete the training, and join the Volunteer Circle. Your investment of time and energy is the only commitment required.

  • The time commitment to join the Volunteer Circle is about 4 hours of self-study time plus about 2 hours of face-to-face time. Once you’ve completed the training portion, there is no requirement for volunteering. As a member of the Volunteer Circle, you can invest as much or as little time as you have available.

  • We know that childcare availability is limited for many parents, and we don’t want lack of childcare to be a barrier to becoming a volunteer. We’ve designed our training program with this in mind. You may need child-free time to engage with the material, but the self-study parts can be completed whenever and wherever you want. For the face-to-face component of the training, babes in arms are welcome if you want or need to bring them.

  • At this time, no. All of our staff serve in a volunteer capacity.

  • Yup! We open applications to our Volunteer Circle at least once each year and sometimes more frequently. If you want to be notified when our next cohort is planned, shoot a message to us at connect@rootedwillowcommunity.org.
